To create space for a genuine outpouring of God, believers must shift their focus from external religious activities to the internal posture of their hearts. Rather than seeking revival as the ultimate prize, we must seek Jesus himself by practicing a fourfold posture: allowing our character to be confronted by Christ, confessing our sins, consecrating our gifts and work for his purposes, and boldly contending for his movement.

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

John 15:14-15

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father, I have made known to you.

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
