Buildings and the images they contain reveal the commitments and longings of a culture. From the early church onward, Christian spaces were designed to point toward the beauty and hope of the coming kingdom. Though some traditions became wary of imagery because of its misuse, images were never meant to be worshiped, but to inspire worship of God. The church should once again encourage and support Christian creatives pursuing artistic excellence, for God is beautiful, beauty points to Him, and the church serves as an embassy of heaven in this world.

“Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their sins. Let them consider its perfection, and if they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the design of the temple—its arrangement, its exits and entrances—its whole design and all its regulations and laws. Write these down before them so that they may be faithful to its design and follow all its regulations.
Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
